Being an entrepreneur in a small, isolated mountain town like Grande Cache, Alberta, is an adventure – one filled with breathtaking views, tight-knit community support, and, let’s be honest, a few unique challenges. With a population of around 3,300 and the closest major town 140 km away, some might think running a successful business here is impossible.
Spoiler alert: It’s not.

Small Town, Big Ambitions
People often assume that if you live in a small town, your opportunities are limited – that success is reserved for those in big cities with fancy office spaces and networking events on every corner. But I’m here to prove that mindset wrong. The reality?
Success isn’t about where you live – it’s about what you build and being consistent.
Yes, Grande Cache is remote, but in today’s world, that doesn’t mean isolation. Technology has changed everything. I can connect with clients across Alberta and beyond, collaborate on projects, and market my services—all from my home office with a mountain view.
The Small-Town Perception
One of the biggest hurdles isn’t just small town, or distance—it’s perception. Some people still think if you’re not based in a major center, you’re not “serious” about business. (Cue the eye roll.) The truth is, running a business in a small town means you wear multiple hats, hustle harder, and build strong, authentic relationships with clients. That’s not a limitation—it’s an advantage, and I’m here for it all!
Another small-town quirk? Everyone knows everyone. While that can be a challenge (your business mistakes travel fast), it’s also a huge asset. Word-of-mouth marketing is powerful here. Friends, family, and former colleagues have been instrumental in spreading the word about my services. Their support has been invaluable in helping me grow my business and build trust with new clients. I am so incredibly lucky and grateful for the support I receive as I build my business from my small home office.
The Perks of Working from Home & Small-Town Living?

One of the biggest rewards of being an entrepreneur in a small town isn’t just professional success—it’s personal freedom. Working from home gives me the flexibility to be present for my family in ways a traditional 9-to-5 never could. I have a 14-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son. We are busy, but now I get to enjoy all the little moments with them, and it’s been so wonderful to experience.
I have no work commute and no missing out on life’s important moments because I’m stuck in an office. I set my schedule, which means I can build a business I love while also being the kind of parent and wife I want to be. Small-town living adds to this in the best ways. Our community is safe, supportive, and full of outdoor adventures.
Entrepreneurship isn’t just about making a living—it’s about designing a life.
And for me, that means balancing meaningful work with the freedom to enjoy my family and the beautiful place we call home.
Gratitude & Growth
I’m beyond grateful for the people who have supported me—whether it’s a friend sharing my website, a colleague recommending me for a project, or a past client coming back with new work. Those connections are everything.
For anyone thinking about starting a business in a small town, here’s my advice: Don’t let geography limit your potential. With the right mindset, a strong network, and a little creativity, you can build something incredible—no matter where you are.
So, if you’re in a small town and wondering if you can make it as an entrepreneur, let me be the first to tell you: Yes, you can. And if you ever need a little encouragement, I’m just a message away.
